Geography
1. Beach (Muzhappilangad Drive-in Beach) The biggest geographical feature of Muzhappilangad is its drive-in beach.
Length: Spanning approximately 4 kilometers, this shoreline is one of the longest drive-in beaches in Asia.
Specialty: Due to the firmness of the sand on the shore, vehicles can be driven along the beach without sinking into the sand. Since it is surrounded by laterite rock formations that act like a natural barrier, the force of the waves is relatively low.
2. Dharmadam Island (Dharmadam Thuruthu) This is a small island located in the sea, about 100–200 meters away from the Muzhappilangad shore.
Topography: Filled with coconut trees, this island is formed of laterite rocks.
Tides: During low tide, as the sea level drops, it is possible to walk or wade through the shallow water from the Muzhappilangad shore to the island.
3. Boundaries
West: Arabian Sea.
East: Edakkad and Dharmadam regions.
North: Proximity to the Anjarakandy River.
4. Climate and Soil Type
Soil: Being a coastal region, the soil is mainly saline sandy soil on the shores, while laterite (red stone) is predominantly found in the inland areas.
Climate: Like other parts of Kerala, this region experiences a tropical climate. The Southwest Monsoon brings heavy rainfall here.
The geography of Muzhappilangad makes it equally ideal for both tourism and fishing.
