Muzhappilangad Grama Panchayat is a coastal village located 13 kilometers south of Kannur town. Coming under the Thalassery Block, Muzhappilangad Grama Panchayat is a peninsula situated between the Anjarakandy River and the Arabian Sea. The boundaries of the Panchayat are the Anjarakandy River to the east, the Arabian Sea to the west, the Kannur Corporation and the Kadambur and Peralassery Panchayats to the north, and the estuary where the Anjarakandy River meets the sea to the south.
Historians claim that the name 'Muzhupalai' Nadu, which means a sand-filled coastal region, gradually transformed over time into Muzhappilangad. This region, which was once part of the old Madras Presidency, gets its name from the Tamil word 'Muzhupalai', meaning entirely filled with sand.
